Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission names Scott Chin as President

Seattle, WA, Release: February 20, 2019.  For immediate release

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission today announced that its Board of Trustees appointed Scott Chin as its new president.

Scott is only the fifth president in the Mission’s 87-year history and the first Mission president from the Seattle area.  Scott grew up in Bellevue, graduated from Newport High School, and the University of Washington. He joined the Mission last summer as its chief development officer and will move to the president’s role immediately.

“We are so fortunate to have someone of Scott’s caliber and experience to lead the Mission,” said Board Chair Bill Aanenson.  “With homelessness at heartbreaking levels in Seattle, Scott brings both strategic vision and a compassionate heart.  He has a strong record of leadership and accomplishment with over 16 years at World Vision and five years at Microsoft.  We’re blessed to have a leader whose background includes both for profit and non-profit experience.”

Chin said, “I am honored and humbled to lead the Mission at this crucial time. To serve with so many selfless, loving people is truly amazing. Every day and night, our staff reaches out to build personal relationships with our homeless and addicted neighbors.  They learn their stories, pray, love, and care for them with the hope of helping them back to a thriving life.   Our recovery programs' success stems in part to a compassionate and dedicated staff, but more so because of the redeeming love of Christ.  We want everyone to know they are loved and cared for, by us, and by God, no matter their circumstance.”

Scott succeeds Jeff Lilley who moved back to Southern California to serve as a pastor and to be closer to his grandchildren.

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission serves Seattle’s homeless through addressing short-term physical needs and providing long-term solutions that break the cycle of addiction, mental illness, and poverty. The Mission is a nonprofit organization that shares God’s love by caring for, providing for, and serving those in greatest need.
