At the Mission, outreach is proactive and relational. Teams go into the community — day and night — to find people who are homeless, hungry, and hurting, building trust over time and creating a path from survival on the streets to support, shelter, and long-term change.
Our teams don’t wait for people to come to us. We go out — day and night — to search out and find those in need. We learn names, listen to stories, and meet people where they are with supplies to make it through another day and night. Each interaction is an invitation to come inside and take a first step toward stability.
Volunteers play a direct role in this work, distributing wool blankets, food, water, and other essential supplies. They also help create a welcoming bridge to safe shelter, offering individuals the opportunity to come inside for the night and begin moving toward care and support.
In addition to visiting known gathering places, Search + Rescue vans travel to some of the most isolated areas in the Seattle region to reach individuals who might otherwise go unseen. These efforts focus on building trust, encouraging people to seek shelter, and helping them begin the process of recovery.
We also offer prayer and a listening ear, creating space for personal connection and dignity. Those who serve regularly help foster meaningful relationships with men and women who need consistent, healthy human connection.
