What is the Mission’s response to the City’s State of Emergency for homelessness?
When the Mayor declared a State of Emergency in November 2015, the Mission quickly added an additional 100 emergency shelter beds, which it completed without any government funding. The Mission has established additional shelters and services for homeless individuals on Capitol Hill and in Redmond, and a new young adult emergency shelter in partnership with New Horizons in Belltown. A new mental health outreach staff position was added. We also expanded Search and Rescue efforts from two vans to five vans nightly and added new territories in Queen Anne and as far as Federal Way.
