Happy Birthday

The birthday party held on April 21 was a huge success! Hundreds of homeless men and women enjoyed cheeseburgers, cake and ice cream. Some danced to the music; others had second helpings. Everyone loved the gifts of crackers, socks, mints, deodorant, lotion and nutrition bars.

Denzel has celebrated his birthday at the Mission for the past three years. He comes because he enjoys the birthday cards that many people send, the food and the overall feeling that people in the community care about homeless people like him. Roland, whose birthday is in August, also celebrated his special day at the Mission’s birthday party. “I’ll probably spend my real birthday alone,” he says, but he’ll keep the memory of this birthday party alive in his mind.

Thank you to all who sent birthday cards with warm wishes, items for the gift bags and offered their prayers. Many homeless people like Denzel and Roland walked away with a feeling of warmth, love and a full stomach.
