No monkey business at the Mission

Last week Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission received a donation of 36,000 pounds of bananas. A local retailer, who was unable to receive their scheduled delivery, told the shipper H.H. Williams to dump the load. But H.H. Williams decided to donate them instead. They called several organizations but wasn’t able to locate one that would take the bananas. Eventually, they contacted Brad Herman at On Time Freight Handling, who knew exactly who to call – Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. Eleven years ago, he had been homeless and stayed at the Mission’s Men’s Shelter. Within a few hours a semi-truck filled with 900 cases of bananas rolled in to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. After the Mission’s different ministries & facilities were stocked with bananas, the Mission distributed the bananas to local food relief and outreach centers.
