93 years, 100s of scarves and counting . . .

When Germaine Fontaine first heard that homeless men and women were sleeping on the cold streets of Seattle, she felt compelled to do something about it. Out of love and compassion, she began knitting scarves and giving them to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. She wanted to do whatever she could to help keep homeless men and women warm, especially during the cold winter months.

Eighteen years later, countless men and women have received clothing from the Mission. Among those items, Germaine’s homemade scarves are the most treasured. They are unique reminders that someone cares about them and thinks they are special – something they might not have felt in some time. And they give hope for the hard road that lies ahead.

Thank you, Germaine, for caring so deeply about the people in need amongst us. May you be as blessed by your scarves as the people who have received them.
