Women reaching out to women
 |
On any given night, there are an average of 70 women and children staying at the Mission’s Women and Family Shelter. Many struggle with addictions, domestic violence, mental issues and many other factors, which led them to homelessness.
Besides realizing God’s love for them, the greatest gift for these women is to hear how others in the community have struggled and how they have survived and lived fulfilled lives. Last month, women from Overlake Christian Church’s Bible study visited the Women & Family Shelter. One woman from the group shared her life story of abuse with the women staying at the shelter. Many were touched by her story and thanked her. The story she told had given them encouragement to not give up and continue on the road to recovery and healing.
Afterwards, women from the Bible study volunteered their time at the Women and Family Shelter.
Hope and encouragement is one aspect the Mission strives to give all Mission clients, whether they are homeless, at-risk youth, lonely seniors or prisoners. We couldn’t do it without community partners and volunteers.
