While a group from Auburn’s Grace Community Church toured the Women and Children's Shelter, they began to notice that two rooms were in need of repairs. Many of them had carpentry and painting skills so they asked if they could help spruce up the rooms. “Our small group receives countless blessings from God through prayer, studying His Word and sharing food, laughter, tears, triumphs and tragedies together, but we never served Him together,” said Carrie, a member of the group. “The Women's Shelter gave us an opportunity to do just that.” The group replaced light fixtures, painted both rooms, installed shelves, and repaired sink cabinets. They also acquired new linens, comforters and pillows to give the room a homey touch. As the group worked, they had the opportunity to get to know a few of the women. “[God] blessed us with meeting some wonderful people [and] gave us another opportunity to enter His throne room in prayer for the departing and incoming families,” said Carrie. “[God] lovingly opened our eyes to the heartfelt needs of the women who just needed someone to come alongside them in prayer or conversation, encouragement or concern. Thank you all for making our community so much richer!” If it weren’t for volunteers, Carrie and her church, the Mission would not be able to help the number of hurting people they do in this community.
