Last Christmas, Missy was sitting on a park bench in the freezing cold. This year she’s looking forward to a warm, peaceful Christmas off the streets at last.
After a childhood spent bouncing between addictive, abusive parents and foster care, Missy ran away at 14. Moving from place to place, she used alcohol and drugs to medicate the pain. Missy sometimes came to the Mission for food and shelter. But she was used to looking out for herself. She wasn’t ready to let us help her change.
After she was released from jail on a drug possession charge, she knew it was finally time to get the help she desperately needed.
Today, Missy is a soft-spoken young woman who has earned the respect of the other women in the program. Support from friends like you has helped Missy recover from addiction and have hope for the future. Now, for the first time in Missy’s life, this Christmas looks like it will be a very merry Christmas indeed!

Cold weather, rain and the isolation highlighted by the holidays bring a surge of people, like Missy, seeking emergency shelter this time of year. Although our guests come for food, shelter and safety from the violence on the streets, they stay because they sincerely want to make a better life for themselves and their children.
For each individual, we have a message of hope, and the help they need to get off the streets for good. Your gift today will go a long way toward ending homelessness in Seattle, one desperate man, woman and family at a time.
