"Somebody was thinking about me."
These are the words of Maria, a program resident whose life has been changed. Once she was a drugged-out mom who lived for her addiction. "I stole from stores. I stole from my family. I stole from jobs. I've lied to people. I stole from my kids." Her dad committed suicide when she was 8. Her stepfather molested her and her mom was an alcoholic. Maria started drinking and doing drugs to try to cover up the hurt from her past. The year before she came to the Mission, drugs were her life. While she was in jail, she heard about Seattle's Union Gospel Mission and knew she had to come. "I felt so welcomed. I hadn't lived in my own room in so long. And even just the shampoo and lotion and everything being in there, it was like somebody was thinking about me. Like somebody cared." With God's help, Maria is breaking free from her addiction. And she has a whole new relationship with her kids.
