Camp starts soon...at-risk kids need your help!
|
Soon, over 400 at-risk youth will arrive at our Youth Reach Out Center for summer camp. For many of these kids, life is pretty rough. Especially when your dad is gone, your mom works two jobs and you are not only in charge of your siblings, but need to get dinner on the table and keep the house running. Homework often becomes second priority. In Washington State alone, as many as 1 in 4 high school students fail to graduate. Many at-risk youth start falling behind as early as second grade.
At camp, they get the special attention and tutoring they may be missing at school. Each morning, certified teachers help them improve their math and reading skills, and they enjoy field trips in the afternoon. Camp enables these kids to escape the pressures and uncertainties of life and helps them improve grades and self-esteem while decreasing anti-social behaviors.
But we need your help! We are in need of school supplies and healthy snacks (see below). Without a glimpse of something more, at-risk youth turn to what they know. Life on the streets. Please give them the chance to learn and to have a positive future. Any help is greatly appreciated!
