Stats for 2007
Stats for 2007

Throughout King County, there are thousands of men, women and children that are hurting and homeless. Many come to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission and each life we touch – each individual - is unique and valuable. Every year, the miracle is repeated: lives restored, one after another. Last year, 102 men and women graduated from four Mission programs. These men and women experience changes – both major and minor – on a daily basis. Their future is bright, unique and full of purpose.

Many of these graduates were first introduced to the Mission through a warm meal. Last year, Mission staff, residents and volunteers served 488,583 meals to homeless people in our community. Others were looking for a safe and warm place to sleep for the night instead of facing the dangers and cold temperatures of sleeping under doorways and bridges. Hundreds of homeless men, 43 families and 145 single women sought refuge at Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. Overall, the Mission provided 124,947 safe overnight stays.

Here are some other noteworthy statistics of Mission guests for the year 2007:

  1. Attended 17,537 counseling sessions
  2. 739 children and youth came to the Mission’s community center and were involved in homework assistance, sports, Bible studies, field trips and camp
  3. 1,453 free dental visits provided
  4. 7,155 volunteers gave 87, 226 hours in service
  5. The Search and Rescue van served 8,849 sandwiches to men and women on the streets
